Danish high school students must also be guaranteed sexual knowledge, according to a proposal from the country’s government.

Education in sex and cohabitation has already been compulsory on the schedule in the folkeskolen, which corresponds to the Swedish primary school. However, when students move on to higher forms of education, they are not guaranteed continued teaching in the subject.

It has caused several student organizations to run a campaign for a change in the area. One of the arguments has been that education is needed to deal with sexual harassment.

– We have just received new consent legislation. It is absolutely crucial that if we are to ensure a real cultural change, it is our generation that must take the lead, says Ingrid Kjærsgaard, president of the Danske Gymnasieelevers Sammenslutning.

– It requires that we also be given space in our courses to talk about how to ensure consent and respect boundaries.
