(Finance) – The executive board of Acciaierie Bertoli Safau (ABS)the steelmaking division of the group Danieliapproved the final program of investments of 400 million euros which, among other things, provides for a new electric oven, the innovative Danieli DigiMelter, completely closed, automatic, driven by artificial intelligence and essentially “net zero”. The company listed on Euronext Milan and active in the production of machinery and plants for the steel industry describes the DigiMelter as “a milestone in the history of steel”, as it “replaces the conventional electric furnace”.

The ABS plant in Cargnacco, Udine, will be the first in Europe to use solar energy for fusion thanks to the installation of approximately 160,000 m² of panels on the roofs of the sheds. ABS intends to be “front runner in the green steel production“, thanks also to projects for heat recovery, energy production and reduction of consumption for a competitive circular economy. Furthermore, by May 2022, a line for the production of high quality spheres used for the production is expected to go into production. grinding of minerals.

Simultaneously with the approval of the investment for the DigiMelter of Cargnacco, the go-ahead was also given feasibility study for the expansion of production at the Sisak site (Croatia) where a new rolling mill will be added to the existing steel plant for an investment of an additional 200 million euros.

Since its acquisition, the Danieli group has invested approximately one billion euros in ABS, in addition to the 600 million euros of the new program, for a total of approximately 1,600 million euros. The new investments will generate new jobs for 125 ABS technicians to which about 250 outsiders will be added.
