The week left until the World Cup.
Then comes the nightmare message for Daniel Ståhl.
– It is a clear disadvantage, says Radiosport’s expert Miro Zalar.
Daniel Ståhl has had a messy season, with high peaks and deep valleys. Until a week or so ago, he still had not thrown more than 70 meters, and he was no longer number one in the world.
Big setback
But in the course of two weeks, he was first responsible for a monster throw over 70 meters during a competition in Finland, and during a competition in Sweden he was responsible for his second longest throw in his career – and also the longest this year. Ståhl was world number one again, but after the competition the results have swayed again.
However, he enters as one of the big gold favorites in this year’s World Cup, which begins on July 15. But with only the week left until the start of the competition, there is now a nightmare message for the Swedish star. His coach Vesteinn Hafsteinsson has been a big part of Ståhl’s success, and the two work extremely closely together.
“A clear disadvantage”
Hafsteinsson has now been on sick leave with fatigue syndrome, and it is now clear that he will miss the World Cup in the USA. He is on sick leave for a total of six weeks.
– It is a great pity that Vésteinn can not be on this trip, but there are things that are much more important than athletics, says national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist.
Miro Zalar, an expert on Radiosporten, believes that it is a big setback for Ståhl.
– It is very important, there is no doubt about it. Now they are experienced so that it is possible that they can handle this on their own, but I think that is a clear disadvantage, says Radiosport’s expert Miro Zalar.
