Daniel Ståhl’s coach misses the World Cup.
A setback for the big gold favorite.
– It is extremely sad, says the discus star to SVT.
Daniel Ståhl has had a swinging season, but when the World Cup starts in just a few days, he will still enter the discus competition as a favorite. This year he has mostly not been world number one, but his highest capacity can still not be questioned.
The coach misses
Ståhl has thrown the longest throw in the world this year, but at the same time he has only had two throws over 70 meters. But he is used to performing at championships, but during this year’s World Cup he has suffered a major setback.
His acclaimed coach Vesteinn Hafsteinsson has been on sick leave with fatigue symptoms, and will stay at home during the championship. Now, for the first time, Daniel Ståhl has a say in what it will be like not to have his immediate leader in place.
– It is extremely sad, Vesteinn has worked hard and he needs to rest, you can say that he has gone into the wall, it is probably the best decision, that he is at home and resting and the rest of us know exactly what to do, we has received a training program, says Ståhl to SVT.
“Better for every day”
Ståhl believes, however, that Hafsteinsson has been informed of how things are going for Ståhl, and it is going in the right direction.
– It is a little better for every day that comes, we have had contact, I have reported a little how the training has gone.
Ståhl is also not completely alone during the championship. Åke Ruus has been called in to replace Hafsteinsson. He has been involved during large parts of Ståhl’s career, and it gives him a lot that he is in place during the competitions in the USA.
– You get safe and calm from him, he was in all my junior championships and senior championships, says Ståhl.
