Daniel Ståhl’s big confession about the big question of who will win the Bragdguldet this year: “I would be…”

Daniel Ståhl has had a magical year behind him.
Which can be crowned with a possible Bragdguld.
Now the WC gold hero opens up about his chances.

The other week, the year’s most important announcement came when Daniel Ståhl got a place in the Swedish Olympic squad for Paris 2024. After this fantastic season, he is one of the most obvious names in the blue-yellow national team squad.

Ståhl’s successful year

The Swedish badass enters his third Olympics as reigning Olympic champion and after this year he is better than ever. Because there were question marks for Ståhl at the beginning of 2023 and the form failed.

But then he found new energy in a change of coach and moved to Malmö to live with love Fanny Roos. It has resulted in a huge boost for the 31-year-old discus thrower.
– What we have created this year has been absolutely fantastic. We have had fun along the way and at the same time believed in what we have done. This was my best season in a very long time, so I’m incredibly proud of it, Ståhl tells Dagens Nyheter and probably dares to admit that it’s the best season in his career.
– Yes, but that’s the way it is. There were five competitions over 70 meters and 71.46 – championship record at the WC in Budapest – was absolutely outstanding.

About Bragdguldet

It is above all the WC final in Budapest and the incredibly dramatic decision that will be most remembered from the year of the “Man of Steel”. Then Ståhl with the very last throw of the competition won both WC gold and broke the championship record with an incredible 71.46 meters.
– I was cold in the head before the last throw and thought that I would make myself bigger than ever in the movements and take only the one with my legs. If I overstep, I do it with 72 meters and then people can sigh afterwards – but it turned out the other way around. A historic throw, so it was incredibly fun, says Ståhl in the interview when he remembers back.

On December 5, the Bragdguldet for 2023 will be awarded and Daniel Ståhl is one of the favourites, together with two other Olympic-ready national team colleagues in Armand Duplantis and Sarah Sjostrom. Now the WC gold hero Ståhl opens up about his chances of winning the prestigious award for the first time in his career.
– The jury can decide and vote on that, it’s just a big bonus for me. I would be very happy if I got it, but there are many in the jury who decide and anyone can take it, says the humble athlete to the daily newspaper.

But Daniel Ståhl probably has a very good chance as one of the criteria is that “the value of the feat must be considered increased in a case where the decision was made in a difficult and difficult situation”. You can really underline that the WC gold did.
