Daniel got tired of bad hotels – sleeps outside all year round

Daniel Ivarsson lives in Örebro, but works in Karlstad. There were many long and expensive hotel nights and eventually he got tired. Now he sleeps in the forest instead.
– I have seen traces of some beavers, but otherwise it is quiet and peaceful.

All you have to do is find two sturdy trees with a good distance from each other, and voila he has a place to live, it only takes a few minutes.

– I do have a few trees that I know work. But now that there is a lot of water outside, it can be 4 to 5 decimetres of water, so then you have to change your mind a bit. So then it is important to find trees with the right distance because I hang the device in which I sleep between two trees, says Daniel.

Blames Ebba Busch

The idea came after a week when almost all hotels in Karlstad were fully booked. Daniel had to take what was offered, a much too expensive suite one night and one of the worst hotel rooms he had seen the other. That was the final straw:
– It’s really Ebba’s fault, the party leader of the Christian Democrats. They had a party convention there so the hotels were full and then I ended up in a rather rickety hotel. After that, I thought it was more pleasant to sleep outside, he says.

The animals stay away

Nowadays, he puts his accommodation, a hammock with a tent on top, over his shoulder and wanders into the forest. In addition to that, he has a toothbrush and some water, so he has everything he needs. If it’s cold, he has double sleeping bags, and the rain doesn’t get into the tent. The wind, on the other hand, can creep past the insulation, but the worst thing so far has been the mosquitoes during the summer half-year. But he has not come across any wild animals.

– It would have been something to wake up with a bear, but no, I have seen traces of a beaver, but otherwise it is quiet and peaceful, says Daniel.

No more hotels

Daniel plans to sleep in his hammock tent for at least a year. After that, he doesn’t know, but there won’t be any more hotels anyway.

– But don’t you want to be a little comfortable? This winter that has been, it must be rough chilly at times? Axel Pileby wonders.
– Well, I’m comfortable at home 6 days a week, this is about one day a week when I get the privilege of being all by myself and lying outside in the fresh air, says Daniel.
