Dani Alves convicted of rape will be released on bail

According to the recent decision of the Barcelona court, Dani Alves can get out of prison when he pays a million euro bail and gives his passport to the authorities.

The Barcelona court has decided to release the Brazilian football star accused of rape Dani Alves out of prison if he pays a million euro bail and gives his passport to the authorities.

The court decided on the matter on Wednesday. In February, Alves was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for rape. The court found Alves guilty of raping a young woman in a Barcelona nightclub on December 31, 2022. Alves has appealed the sentence and can now be freed by giving the sum of money and his passport for the duration of the appeal hearing.

Alves has been imprisoned since January last year. His previous requests to be freed have not been granted because the court considered it a risk for Alves to flee Spain. Brazil does not extradite its own citizens when they have been convicted in other countries.

Now Alves has to give the authorities his Brazilian and Spanish passports and he cannot leave Spain.,

Alves, 40, was playing for Mexican club Pumas when he was arrested. Pumas terminated Alves’ contract immediately.

Alves is remembered from the club team, especially from the FC Barcelona shirt. He won six Spanish championships and three Champions Leagues in FC Barcelona’s shirt.

Victim’s Advocate Esther Garcia disappointed with the warranty decision.

– For me, this is a scandal that they can release a person who they know will get a million euros in an instant, Garcia said, according to the news agency AFP.

The decision was not unanimous. Of the three judges who made the decision, one did not give an affirmative decision. Garcia plans to appeal the decision.
