British and German warplanes intercepted two Russian warplanes and a spy plane flying close to NATO airspace.
In the statement made by the British Royal Air Force (RAF), it was reported that the German Air Force and the RAF’s “Eurofigther Typhoon” type jets carried out a joint mission to intercept two Russian warplanes and a spy plane flying over the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea.
In the statement, which stated that one of the planes was a Russian intelligence plane flying from Russia to the Kaliningrad region near Poland, the following statements were made by an RAF pilot:
“We often see Russian military aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea and so this was a routine prevention for us. Yet the importance of intercepting these aircraft and our commitment to the collective defense of NATO airspace remains unwavering and resolute.”
British and German air forces are working together to protect the eastern flank of the NATO border as part of Operation Azotize.
