The South American country is suffering through this summer’s eighth heat wave – with temperatures of around 40 degrees. In the last decade, there have never been more than four to five such peaks per season.

Calculated from the period November to January, it is the hottest summer since 1961. The temperature is about 1.7 degrees higher than normal, according to SMN.
