Dangerous food recipes spread online

The food chain Coop is one of several players who distribute recipes that the Swedish Food Agency classifies as potentially dangerous. It concerns a risk that the nerve agent botulinum toxin is formed in oil marinades, preservation of vegetables and in vacuum-packed fish stored at room temperature.

– To prevent poisoning, it must be sufficiently acidic, salty, sweet, dry and cold, explains microbiologist Åsa Rosengren at the Swedish Food Agency, who is concerned about the ignorance among those who publish recipes online.
