Noting that there are currently 1600 licensed drugs for animal health services and more than half of them are antibiotics, Yarsan said, “Apart from that, vitamins, minerals and parasitic drugs follow in order, but antibiotics constitute the most important group. Antibiotics are the most used drug group in human medicine. OECD “According to the data, Turkey is the country where antibiotics are used the most. We are in the 2nd place in the world regarding antibiotic resistance. This is a situation that should not happen, so forward-looking projects should be done about it,” he said.
‘CAN CREATE A FORWARD PANDEMIC’

Dr. Yarsan stated that antibiotics are used twice more in veterinary medicine and said, “When we use antibiotics, the important thing is to provide direct treatment, but harmful effects can also be formed from antibiotics. The risk of residue may occur, it is extremely important. The medicine we use is reflected in the animal product, and the animals can also be reflected in the society through the products. One of the most important risks is the risk of antibiotic resistance, which is a concern that it may cause a pandemic in the future. Apart from that, antibiotics also have negative effects on the systems directly. They also have allergic effects. The concept we call antibiotic resistance; the drug has a recommended dose. “It reaches a certain plasma level and then begins to show effect. Even if we use the antibiotic at normal doses, if the bacteria are not affected by the drug, it is expressed as a resistance to that drug.”

Reminding that the Covid-19 pandemic, which emerged at the end of 2019, affected the whole world on an international scale, Yarsan said, “It started at the end of 2019, today we are in 2022. The death rate from Covid-19 is approximately 6 million in 2.5 years. According to the data, 33 thousand people in the European Union countries, 35 thousand people in the United States, 700 thousand people all over the world and 1 person every 45 seconds die as a result of an infection caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Studies have been carried out on what could happen if no precautions are taken. Stating that other drugs have been tried instead of antibiotics, but the same effect has not been achieved, Yarsan said, “Therefore, antibiotics are drugs that should be valued. Then we will use them rationally. Antibiotics should be used under the control of a physician. In other words, antibiotics will not be taken from any place randomly. “There has been an improvement, there will be no ‘don’t use antibiotics’ approach.
