The Dane Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education) won the 10th stage of the Tour of Italy on Tuesday May 16 in Viareggio in the rain, marked by numerous falls and several abandonments. Winner of two stages of the Tour de France and six of the Vuelta, the 30-year-old Dane becomes the 105th rider in history to have won on the three Grand Tours. He sprinted ahead of his two breakaway companions, Canadian Derek Gee (Israel Premier Tech) and Italian Alessandro De Marchi (Jayco-AlUla), 50 seconds ahead of the peloton. The Briton Geraint Thomas (Ineos) keeps the pink leader’s jersey which he recovered after the abandonment on Sunday evening of the big favorite, the Belgian Remco Evenepoel, following a positive test for Covid-19. Among the riders who left the race on Tuesday was the Russian Alexandr Vlasov (Bora) who was sixth overall and looked like an outsider for the final victory.
