Considered as a real outlet, the French have been missing dance since the start of the health crisis, and even more since the closure of sports halls, bars and nightclubs. An overwhelming majority of French people say that dancing is an ideal way to release stress and pressure, and that it also brings mental well-being and happiness.

Nine in ten French people (90%) say that dancing improves their mood and has a positive impact on their stress level, according to a survey conducted by OnePoll for Zumba. Almost half of them even say that they feel better – less stressed and less anxious – after engaging in this activity, which is both fun and physical.

Paradoxically, while sports halls and nightclubs are currently closed and the French are more stressed than ever, nearly two-thirds of respondents (64%) consider that dancing offers the possibility of abandoning oneself and ‘escape the pressure and problems of everyday life, and 61% even say they feel happier when they dance.

    Dance, liberator

Dance is not only an outlet for the mind, but it also frees the body. It is in any case a real asset of seduction since more than half of the French (55%) affirm to be attracted by partners who know how to move their body.

It is therefore not surprising to learn that nearly two-thirds of those questioned (65%) would like to dance more often, including 70% among 18-44 year olds. Something almost impossible in the midst of a global pandemic. As a result, a majority of French people say they dance less than five times a month, and nearly three in ten (26%) never even dance; men are less involved in this activity than their female counterparts.

To remedy this phenomenon, Zumba is organizing a worldwide event, from January 23 to 24, offering no less than 24 hours of non-stop dancing, Zumba 24.

This survey was conducted between January 11 and 17, 2021 with a sample of 2,000 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
