Known for several successes in the 80s, the singer Herbert Léonard recently confided in his life in France Dimanche. An interview in which he tells how the Covid has impacted his life, up to having to undergo several surgeries.

For many, “For pleasure”or “mad lovers” remain emblematic titles of the 80s. But if their interpreter Herbert Léonard is no longer so present in the French artistic landscape, it is not only due to his age. The 78-year-old singer has had a difficult time linked to covid, which has kept him away from the stages.

One month spent on a ventilator in 2022

During an interview conducted for the newspaper France Dimanche on Friday May 5, the man confided in his life and his projects. He also spoke of his health, weakened in particular by the Covid.

“A black series began 5 years ago with an infection in the lungs which inflicted on me thirty-two days of coma”, reveals the singer.

Then, it is the Covid, “carabinated” in his words, which earned him a month of hospitalization on a respirator in the course of the year 2022. As well as a complicated convalescence.

    Two vocal cord operations required

If the man has since been back on his feet, his voice, on the other hand, is damaged by respiratory infections. A consequence difficult to manage for a singer, whose voice is the working instrument. To overcome this cursed period and recover his voice, Herbert Léonard underwent two operations on his vocal cords, followed by rehabilitation with a speech therapist for more than a year.

A test that he considers difficult, but which today seems behind him in particular thanks to the support of his wife. The proof is: the singer intends to return to the stage soon with new songs… written before the Covid.
