Fire crews from Norfolk and Haldimand responded to a pair of barn fires in the Waterford area Thursday night, the latest in a recent string of suspicious incidents.

Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on Concession 10 Townsend just before midnight on Thursday. Upon arrival, they discovered two barns on fire that resulted in $1,000,000 worth of damage to the contents. Both barns were destroyed. Dollar value of the barns was not known, Cory Armstrong-Smith, Norfolk’s fire prevention officer, said in a media release.
The buildings were unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported.
This was the third time in the last month that officials were called to a suspicious fire event.
On Dec. 11, members of the OPP and fire teams battled a blaze at an outbuilding just after 4 am In the aftermath, police were asking nearby residents to review home surveillance systems to see if anything that could help the investigation was captured on video.

In late November, two separate fires were reported in the Simcoe and Langton areas. The first was reported at 10:19 pm Nov. 27 when crews from four Norfolk Fire stations responded to a fully engulfed barn fire on Fourteenth Street West in Simcoe.
The barn was used for storage and no animals were present, but the structure was destroyed.
Just after midnight, firefighters headed to a residential fire on 10th Concession Road in Langton where again, crews from four stations responded. No one was inside the two-storey home at the time, but it has been deemed a complete loss. No dollar amount was provided.
Norfolk OPP have reported a red or burgundy Ford Crew Cab pickup was seen near the Langton fire.
