“Damage beyond what is realistic”

In a hotfix, Blizzard 2 has temporarily disabled legendary aspects in Diablo 4. The items were important for some of the strongest builds in the game. When they come back is still open.

What are these items? It’s about 2 legendary aspects of the game, both of which can be found in the Codex of Power:

  • Blademaster’s Aspect (all classes): Increases damage based on the resource available at the time of cast
  • Aspect of Berserker Rending (Barbarian): Damage dealt while Berserker inflicts additional bleed damage
  • Blademaster’s Aspect is popular in many builds that rely on strong resource extraction. In fact, the Barbarian aspect is an important part of the Whirlwind build, one of the strongest builds in the game. You can find the best builds in our Diablo 4 tier list.

When will the items come back? The items have been disabled since an update on June 9th. There is no date for reactivation yet. Blizzard wants to give an update as soon as more can be said about it.

Barbarians may not be the most popular class in Diablo 4, but their builds still delight many fans. Gameplay for the class can be seen here:

Much too high damage disables important items

Why were the items deactivated? As community manager Adam Fletcher writes on Twitter, there is a bug with the items. Accordingly, the “damage is beyond anything that is realistic for the game.” (via Twitter)

You can continue to use the aspects, they just currently have no effect until they are activated again. So you don’t have to throw away the items right away or take them to the blacksmith for recycling.

There have already been complaints from players about excessive damage figures. Ironically, a whirlwind barbarian was the first player to reach level 100 before the game was even available.

The attacks that barbarians could dish out with it were sometimes in the multiple million range. Something Blizzard actually wanted to avoid. That’s probably why Fletcher made his statement.

The fact that such high numbers are possible at all is due to the combination of several multipliers that favor each other. A key factor here is a pair of unique gloves, which can do some pretty absurd damage—or none at all:
