This adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel released in 2019 looks back on the epic of a fictional rock band of the 1970s, from its formation to glory through its unexplained disbandment right after a sold-out concert. Twenty years later, the members of the disintegrated group decide to confide in a documentary on what really happened behind the scenes. Is it worth a look?
Our review of Daisy Jones and the Six : It is difficult for connoisseurs not to draw a parallel between Daisy Jones and the Six and Fleetwood Mac, and anyone interested in a behind-the-scenes look at the 1970s music scene will love this tale. But make no mistake: the effervescence of seventies rock’n’roll is only a backdrop to sensitively address the pain behind the glitter. The Prime Video series is as much about artistic creation and music as it is about impossible love and marriage, the torments of addiction, the hell of depression and loneliness. The journey of resilience or failure of the brilliant musicians of Daisy Jones and the Six keeps the viewer spellbound over ten superbly paced episodes, served by an addictive soundtrack created especially for the occasion.
So that Daisy Jones and the Six works, it needed a perfect reconstruction of the 70s, an effective soundtrack, but above all a cast up to the task to honor these tormented characters. The actors, who sing and play musical instruments without understudy, are absolutely convincing. Special mention to Camilla Morrone (Camilla Dunne), best known for her relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio who succeeds here in stealing the show from Sam Claflin (Billy Dunne) and Riley Keough (Daisy Jones), heartbreaking rockers haunted by their demons. We almost regret that Daisy Jones and the Six is a fictional group.
Series Daisy Jones and the Six gives the appearance of a documentary tracing the beginnings and the fall of a rock group in full glory in the 1970s. But make no mistake about it, Prime Video subscribers: the group that we follow in the Amazon platform series does not exist and was totally invented by author Taylor Jenkins Reid. Nevertheless, we can make connections with the real British group Fleetwood Mac, whose tumultuous life behind the scenes (and the breakups of its members) gave rise to the mythical album Rumours. The relationship between Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne in the series is inspired in part by that of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, emblematic members of Fleetwood Mac.

Daisy Jones and the Six is a miniseries adapted from the novel of the same name written by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It will soon be broadcast on Prime Video. Amazon’s streaming platform will put the first episodes online from March 3, 2023. New episodes will be broadcast every Friday, until March 24 inclusive.
