Daimler Truck and Volvo Group signed an agreement for a joint venture to develop a software-defined vehicle platform.
The official statement on this subject stated the following: “Daimler Truck, the umbrella company of Mercedes-Benz Turk, and Volvo Group announced in May this year that they aimed to establish a joint venture to develop a software-defined vehicle platform and a special truck operating system that will form the basis for the commercial vehicles of the future. In this context, two leading companies in the commercial vehicle industry signed a binding agreement for the joint venture. With the agreement, work began on establishing a company whose headquarters will be in Gothenburg, Sweden. The software-defined vehicle platform to be developed through the joint venture will enable Daimler Truck and Volvo Group to provide independent digital vehicle functions in the products they will offer to potential future customers.

The joint venture’s activities will include the identification and supply of centralized high-performance control units specifically designed for commercial vehicles and capable of processing big data. The new company will develop an operating system and utilities that vehicle manufacturers can use as the basis for developing digital vehicle features that differentiate them. This initiative will separate software and hardware development cycles in the future and enable customers to purchase and update digital applications wirelessly. Thus, customer efficiency and experience will increase significantly. “This large-scale joint venture transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025, subject to receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals.”
