The 2025 Dakar Rally consists of a 5,145-kilometer route raced against time and a 12-day challenge with intense competition, following the Opening (Prologue) stage on January 3. The race will start from Bisha in the west of Saudi Arabia and end in Shubaytah in the east, after a day’s rest in Hail and a night’s stay in the capital Riyadh. The race also includes the 48H Chrono stage, covering 971 kilometers of challenging course.
Dacia Sandriders Team Principal Tiphanie Isnard trusts her team in the tough challenge that awaits the team, which consists of a total of three racing cars. “We are about to enter what we can only describe as an extraordinary challenge,” Isnard said. But we worked so hard to prepare. “We are determined to overcome this difficult challenge with courage and faith.” he said.
“We prepared intensively for nearly three intense weeks with little opportunity for rest. Still, we’re excited to see what’s in store and can’t wait to get started. Of course, we go into the race as winners after our victory in the Morocco Rally. But if we underestimate the challenge we face or fail to stay focused at every stage, our past victory will be of no use.”
VALUABLE GAINS LEARNED AT THE MOROCCO RALLY WILL BE APPLIED IN PRACTICE Before setting off for Saudi Arabia after the Morocco Rally, the Dacia Sandriders team had less than a month to prepare their BFGoodrich-equipped Ultimate category cars. Technical Director Philip Dunabin has revealed what changes have been made to the sustainably fueled Dacia Sandriders ahead of the 2025 Dakar Rally.
“Being first and second in the Morocco Rally showed that Dacia Sandrider has a good level of performance,” said Dunabin. “Of course, going from Morocco to Dakar, we focused on reliability to make sure we could get through the two weeks without any problems. After Morocco we worked full time at Sweet Lamb in Wales to improve any engine reliability issues. Apart from this, we held another session to optimize the cooling performance of the engine and other aspects of the vehicle. We did this in a wind tunnel at the MIRA facility in England. During our tests in Morocco and at the rally, we experienced some problems with the electronics that control the engine’s fans.
With the help of Alpine Racing, we were able to take a pretty deep dive into fan electronics and took numerous measures with the fan manufacturer to improve the reliability of these components. We also worked on limited-life products to make sure we had enough durability to cross the Dakar. We based this development work on an evaluation of the performance of the components during the Morocco Rally and in testing. Therefore, we have a good understanding of the lifespan of each component to ensure we reach the end of the Dakar with the least number of problems. “All these measures will enable us to achieve the best possible result in the Dacia Sandriders’ debut in Dakar.”
