Dachshund Twiglet stolen during burglary in Essex by masked thief

On Wednesday afternoon, a masked burglar broke into a house in the town of Saffron Walden in the south-east of England. The break-in was caught on the villa’s surveillance cameras and shows the thief preying on 16-month-old dachshund Twiglet, reports Sky News.

In the images, shared by Essex Police, the masked perpetrator can be seen chasing Twiglet in the kitchen. Although the pet struggled, the thief managed to lift her up and leave the residence.

After owner Jamie Vinds discovered her dachshund had been stolen, she alerted Essex Police. During Wednesday and Thursday, the police carried out a large search operation and issued a wanted notice that was widely circulated on social media, according to the channel.

The theory: The thief got cold feet

Several people in the town got involved in the search. During Thursday evening, Twiglet’s owner received a tip from the public that the little dog had been found. Later in the evening, the dachshund was reunited with its owner.

“Everyone… we have great news… Twig is home!!!” writes Jamie Vinds on Facebook after the incident. At the same time, she states that Twiglet has been depressed since the break-in.

The owner’s theory is that the burglar got cold feet after the police’s wanted notice was widely circulated.

“We are impressed by how amazing people have been and want to thank you all so much,” writes Jamie Vinds.

The police are still hunting the perpetrator. Essex Police signs its website that the investigation continues.
