Czech Republic wants to impose vaccination for over 60s

The central European country is among the states most affected by the pandemic in recent weeks. After the strengthening of health measures, but without confinement, the Czech authorities have just made vaccination compulsory for those over 60 and for certain professions.

The new ministerial circular imposes vaccination on seniors as well as medical staff, firefighters, law enforcement and other social service employees.

Disagreement of the future government

According to official data, 18% of people over 60 have not yet been vaccinated in the Czech Republic. However, it is not certain that the new legislation will enter into force as planned on March 1. A new government is in fact being formed in Prague and the new prime minister as well as the future Minister of Health have already declared themselves against compulsory vaccination.

In addition, the first doses of vaccines for children aged between 5 and 11 will be available next week in the country, after the recent green light given by the European Medicines Agency.
