Cyclone Mocha: a deadly toll in the Bay of Bengal

Cyclone Mocha a deadly toll in the Bay of Bengal

It is the most powerful cyclone of the last ten years. Cyclone Mocha, which swept through part of the Bay of Bengal on Sunday May 14 and left, according to a latest report, still provisional – at least 41 dead – in several villages in the state of Arakan in the west of the Burma. As communications are restored in the area, hitherto cut off from the world, the local media fear a much heavier toll and count several hundred missing, the majority in Burmese coastal villages sheltering internally displaced Rohingyas.
