Van Empel, Pieterse and Van Anrooij soon ended up in the leading group, with compatriot Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado also in the beginning. Later Van Empel, Pieterse and Van Anrooij alternated in the lead. Sometimes one of the cyclocross women made a hole, but they kept coming back together. Van Empel timed her acceleration well and finished 3 seconds ahead of Pieterse, who also tried to pull away on the last lap.
