A man in his 30s was going to cycle over the Dalbo Bridge in Vänersborg – but missed that the bridge began to open.
Then it was too late.
– The bridge opens fully and he is left hanging there, says Christian Brattgård, the police’s spokesperson.
When the man was going to look for something in his bag, he did not notice that the bridge began to open.
– He has headphones in his ears and noticed the bridge opening too late, says police spokesperson Christian Brattgård.
The man managed to grab something and clung to it.
– He has got hold of a railing or something so that he can hold on until the bridge is brought down again, says police spokesperson Christian Brattgård.
“Uninjured but shocked”
The bridge was opened to its full position before it was closed and the man was able to stand on solid ground again.
– He is unharmed but shocked, of course, says Christian Brattgård.
It is unclear exactly how high up the man ended up hanging.
– But it is probably far too high for you to manage without injury if you fall down, says Christian Brattgård.
Helped across the bridge by police
The bicycle was destroyed in the fall and the man was helped by a police patrol to cross the bridge.
The incident is considered an accident and no report has been made.
