The International Cycling Union (UCI) validated on Monday March 31, the participation of a 23rd team on the three major towers this year, allowing organizers to offer a third invitation to training their choice. The proposal was approved by the steering committee of the supreme cycling body, which was a formality after the green light given on March 26 by the professional cycling council (CCP). On the Grands Tours (France, Italy and Spain), the rule is that the eighteen World Tour teams (1st division) are automatically qualified. Two other invitations go to the two best classified training courses in the second division, and now three invitations will be at the discretion of the organizers. If the organizers of the three large towers were impatiently awaiting this decision, some teams have underlined the risks on the safety of the runners of an enlargement of the peloton, which will go from 176 to 184 cyclists, in an increasingly accidental sport.
