Cybersecurity bill the examination on strict computer crimes will begin

(Finance) – The Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, Alfredo Mantovanowill present tomorrow (Wednesday 13 March, ed.) during the session of the joint Commissions I (Constitutional Affairs, of the Presidency of the Council and Interior) and II (Justice) will present the bill for the introduction of provisions regarding the strengthening of national cybersecurity and of computer crimes.
“The text of the bill, composed of 18 articles, was approved by the Council of Ministers in its session last January 25th – explains Palazzo Chigi in a note –. The rules aim to guarantee greater resilience of public administrations, in particular those not included in the “Cyber ​​National Security Perimeter”, to strengthen theNational Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) and its coordination with the judicial authorities and to introduce specific procedures for more immediate intervention by the Agency for the purposes of prevention and restoration of the functionality of the IT systems in the event of attacks”.

“Furthermore – continues the note –, changes (substantial and procedural) are made in relation to computer crimesproviding for the increase in penalties, the expansion of the boundaries of specific intent, the inclusion of aggravating circumstances and/or the prohibition of mitigating factors for various crimes committed through the use of IT equipment and aimed at producing undue advantages for those who commit them , to the detriment of others or to illegally access computer systems and/or to intercept/interrupt computer and telematic communications”.

In addition to introducing new crime figures – such as thecyber extortion –, the bill doubles the penis for unauthorized access to computer systems: the years of imprisonment they go from 1-5 to 2-10 years and there are also up to 2 years of imprisonment and fines for those who possess or distribute harmful software.
