Cyberpunk 2077 is now four years old. After a more than unfortunate start, the developers put a lot of extra effort into the game and improved it. Now their work is bearing fruit and they can celebrate success.
How did Cyberpunk 2077 fare? The role-playing game from studio CD Projekt Red certainly hasn’t had an easy journey. It was originally released in December 2020 for PC and consoles. The game was in a dilapidated state, especially on the weaker console variants.
Not only did players have to deal with significantly reduced graphics than on the PC, there were also numerous bugs – the RPG simply seemed unfinished. This led to great outrage in the community and a loss of prestige for the developer studio, which was very renowned for the Witcher series.
Over the last few years, however, they have worked hard to not only repair the game, but even expand it. With Update 2.0 at the latest, entire systems, such as the skill system, were revised. The DLC Phantom Liberty was a successful expansion. And the game also recently received updates.
All of this has led to players looking at Cyberpunk 2077 differently today. This is reflected in concrete numbers on Steam.
Takemura would be proud
What is cyberpunk like today? If you take a look at the game’s Steam page today, you can no longer see any of the once negative mood among the players. As of January 23, 2025, Cyberpunk has received “Extremely Positive” status in recent reviews.
Specifically, this means: 95% of the reviews from the last 30 days are positive. Based on the entire time since release, Cyberpunk 2077 still achieves a “very positive” rating – 84% of players gave it a thumbs up.
So you can see that those who have given the current version of the game a chance are extremely impressed with it.
What do the developers say about this? Of course, the good rating didn’t go unnoticed by the developers. Quest designer Paweł Sasko can hardly believe it and is very happy about it in a posting on x.com:
I never dreamed that this was possible. Over 4 years after release, Cyberpunk 2077 has achieved “Extremely Positive” on Steam. I am so grateful for your passion, memes, videos, reviews, articles, fan art, cosplay and mods. Much love, my Chooms!

The Narrative Director of Witcher 4, Philipp Weber, also worked as a quest designer at Cyberpunk and joins in thanking the community:
After all this time, I’m so glad that we finally got the chance to realize our vision and I’m so grateful for the team that continues to support it to this day and the fans who never gave up on it. Takemura would be proud!

The story of Cyberpunk 2077 is one with ups and downs. Now the developers have managed to win the overwhelming recognition of the players. Are you one of those who changed their mind about the game? Feel free to write it to us in the comments. MeinMMO author Johanna Heuck was particularly fascinated by one character: Judy in Cyberpunk 2077 breaks my heart – and I want more of it
