Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty will change the game and proves

With the upcoming release of Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC, CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed title is poised to become one of the best RPGs of all time. The proof in pictures.

[Mis à jour le 25 août 2023 à 12h50] The electroshock that was the release of Cyberpunk 2077 at the end of 2020 ultimately served the video game industry a lot. Studios kneel less in front of impossible deadlines and more often offer to postpone the release of a game rather than offering players a defective or even downright unplayable product. For CD Projekt Red, the fall was hard, but the studio did not disassemble and worked hard to raise its game to the level of its promises. Two years later, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best open-worlds of the moment, offering a rich and lively universe, nervous and varied gameplay and stories as tough as they are engaging. It is therefore logical that fans are waiting for the release of its first big DLC, Phantom Liberty, presented in detail by the Polish studio. We dive into this new universe just below, with a new gameplay video.

Gameplay

Between excellence and mediocrity, the line is sometimes fine. Cyberpunk 2077 is the perfect example of this and will long be remembered for seeing too big, too fast, and too soon. Promises not kept, technical problems by the hundreds, the one that was to revolutionize the open-world RPG quickly became disillusioned, becoming a burden for CD Projekt Red which has since hastened to patch it up. With a next-gen update in 2022, and more generally many patches since its release, Cyberpunk 2077 has become a more than solid game, offering an original story, frankly enjoyable gameplay despite its sometimes still imperfect technique. Because out of the question to drop the fish for the Polish studio, which last summer threw a small pebble in the pond by presenting its first DLC: Phantom Liberty. And to the sublime performance of Keanu Reeves as Johny Silverhand, you’ll be able to add Idris Elba as Solomun Reed to his output.

Although the scenario of Phantom Liberty is not yet known, we will find V and Johny Silverhand in an all-new plot in the heart of Night City. The DLC intends to pay a little in the police and political investigation, with the arrival of new colorful characters like Solomun Reed played by Idris Elba, as mentioned above. Along with new locations and characters to encounter in and out of Night City, Phantom Liberty plans to bring a bunch of character upgrades, new weapons, and new outfits.

But that’s not all, new features will arrive with this DLC, such as the highly anticipated vehicle combat. The trailers for Phantom Liberty were not silent on this subject, showing us two sequences of confrontation in the car which had the gift of awakening our nostalgia for GTA. It must be said that this is an essential feature in the RPG, which players wanted to see as soon as the game was released. A new faction as well as a new zone will also be present in Phantom Liberty, as well as more than one dozens of new weapons and cybernetic augmentations. There will also be new vehicles as well as completely redesigned skill trees, accompanied by an all-new perk tree from the relic of V.

But that’s not all, the game also intends to deeply rethink certain key elements of its gameplay. We can think of the police who are completely modified and will constitute a real adversary during your illegal activities, in particular because of the MaxTac units which will be deployed much more often in the combat zones. Your character’s maximum level will be increased while a new district will be available to explore. An extremely vast content that is reminiscent of the famous Heart and Stone and Blood and Wine DLCs of The Witcher 3.

What is the release date for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty?

Phantom Liberty will be available on September 26 2023 on all next-gen gaming platforms. A small detail that could anger owners of Playstation 4 and Xbox One, for whom the Cyberpunk 2077 experience was far from perfect. Only, the technical requirements of the game make it exclusive to next-gen consoles and PC, this is in any case what the decision to release this new DLC only on PS5, Xbox Series and PC proves to us.
