The electoral authority has had major technical problems during election night. Among other things, the authority has been exposed to several overload attacks.
– There have been three overload attacks against val.se. One yesterday and two today (Sunday). The latest one is still ongoing, says Anna Nyqvist, head of office at the Swedish Electoral Authority, to TT late on Sunday evening.
– We cannot yet assess the extent to which visitors are affected, but right now val.se is working.
The attacks have been reported to the police.
The electoral authority has also had a delay in transferring result files to the media. Those problems were fixed during the evening.
TT: Could those problems be related to the overload attacks?
– At the moment, I cannot comment on that.
During the evening, the county administrations also had temporary problems with their telephone exchange.
– This meant that reporting was slow for a period from municipalities to county administrations. That problem was solved after fifteen minutes, says Anna Nyqvist.
She says the vote count is proceeding as planned and is not affected because the votes are counted manually.
– The election results are not in danger.
