Twelve Norwegian ministries have been exposed to a cyber attack which is being investigated by the police.

– This is a reminder that the cyber threat is very real and is a significant part of the new security policy situation we live in, says Municipality and District Minister Sigbjørn Gjelsvik (Center Party) at a press conference on Monday.

The department’s security and service organization (DSS) has appointed a crisis team to investigate the incident in collaboration with, among others, the national security authority (NSM).

– We have discovered a previously unknown vulnerability in the software of one of our suppliers. This vulnerability has been exploited by an unknown actor. We have now closed this vulnerability, says DSS manager Erik Hope.

He adds that it is too early to say who is behind the attack and how extensive it is.
