The indie MMORPG Soul’s Remnant invites you to a free playtest. Here’s what you need to do for it.
This is Soul’s Remnant: The cute game is a 2D MMORPG with a focus on platforming and gameplay. You slip into the role of a little ghost and explore the big world of Soul’s Remnant.
The game is a solo project by hobbyist developer chaomoon, which he has been working on for over 6 years. It is completely Free2Play and does not have a cash shop or other monetization options. Fans of the game can volunteer to support the dev on Patreon instead.
Here’s how you can try Soul’s Remnant: On December 16th the open playtest of the game started. If you want to try Soul’s Remnant, you can do it completely for free by creating an account on the official site:
The test lasts 2 weeks, so you don’t have forever to watch the game. You can check out a gameplay trailer for the Open Alpha here:
How to play Soul’s Remnant: The 2D MMORPG has no fixed classes, but an upgrade system. The combat system in Soul’s Remnant is not particularly complex and is reminiscent of the previous 2D Zelda games. Killing monsters gives you EXP and leveling up gives you 5 points that you can put into different stats:
You also get a skill point when you level up. Once you’ve collected several of these, you can use them along with some materials to unlock various abilities. This applies to all types of skills, from combat to gathering.
Another way to expand your character is also the “Monster Mastery System”. It’s basically a “death counter” for the monsters you’ve killed in the game. From a certain amount you unlock various bonuses, such as Bonus EXP.
The dungeons in Soul’s Remnant must be unlocked with items that drop from the monsters in the open world. Once unlocked, you can explore them in a group of up to 4 players and defeat the bosses within.
This is new in the playtest: The developer chaomoon announced new content for the open playtest. This includes:
You can join the Soul’s Remnant official Discord, but keep in mind that the indie project is only available in English. If you don’t speak the language, it’s best to gather some friends and go exploring with them.
