Large amounts of amphetamine oil have been seized at Sweden’s borders.
It is now suspected that there are one or more large amphetamine factories in Sweden, something that could have serious consequences for both people and the environment.
– Waste products arise, and when you get rid of them in nature, there is a very large destruction, says Oscar Lindvall at the Swedish Customs Administration.
In the port of Trelleborg, customs have seized over 70 liters of amphetamine oil so far this year. Amphetamine oil is used in the manufacture of amphetamines, and given the large volumes that have been found, it is suspected that amphetamines are produced on a large scale in several places in Sweden.
Dangerous for people and the environment
In addition to the fact that amphetamine is highly addictive, it also creates serious environmental problems.
– Waste products arise, and when you get rid of them in nature, it becomes a very large destruction that requires extensive and costly cleanup, says Oscar Lindvall, the Customs Agency’s deputy control manager for southern Sweden.
Amphetamine factories are a big problem in both the Netherlands and Belgium. There, they have now managed to map how the manufacturers go about getting rid of the residual products.
– They get rid of the waste by having people whose sole task is to portion it out for days on end. This is done by driving around on the roads and dripping out the residual products.
Customs needs more resources
In order to stop both the smuggling and the manufacture of amphetamines, Oscar Lindvall believes that customs needs more resources. We need more people who work in the external service and more checks to be able to stop the narcotics already at the border.
– Narcotics are a poison for society and you are afraid that our children and young people and other people get hold of this amphetamine and abuse it. It causes very great damage to society, says Oscar Lindvall.
