“Gränsbevakarna Sverige” is the hit program on Kanal 5 and discovery+ that follows customs personnel at the country’s airports, ports and borders. On February 6, 2024, the fourth season of the show premiered, and just like previous editions, viewers get to see customs inspectors and border police make a whole bunch of exciting finds.

In the first episode of the fourth season, we see how the customs in the port of Helsingborg become strongly suspicious of a truck that has just rolled off a ferry. Because they suspect that there is more in the cargo than is claimed in the documents, it is taken in for inspection.

Anton, group manager at customs, explains that there are chips and nuts in the cargo, which do not have a very high value. He therefore assesses that it is unlikely that one would have to drive the load that far.

Usually the company transports fruits and vegetables, but now the truck is full of chips and nuts, so a thorough check is carried out. But when Anton and his colleagues are to x-ray a high stack of boxes of nuts, they start to topple over. The pallet gets a thorn, but despite the miss, they manage to get a good picture of the contents of the boxes.

Anton and his colleagues then do the painstaking work of taking everything out of the truck to examine the contents more closely.
After much back and forth, and after X-raying countless boxes full of chips and nuts, customs finally make a find. And not such a small find either. In some of the boxes of chips there are vacuum-packed narcotics.

Box after box turns out to contain narcotics, hidden among chip bags. At the same time, even more drugs are found in the boxes that are supposed to contain nuts. The value of the seizure is estimated to be many millions and more personnel are called in as the workload is enormous.

Customs estimates, without even having weighed everything, that the seizure amounts to just over 350 kilograms of narcotics.
– This is fantastic. That’s why we’re here, we want to make these big seizures. I’ll get to offer sandwich cake, but that’s part of being a team leader. I’m damn happy with my group, says Anton.
The driver of the truck is arrested for serious drug smuggling, but denies it.
