The man claimed in interrogation that he intended to drink the alcohol himself and give away parts of it to friends without charging. But customs did not believe his story.
Two months earlier, the man had been stopped at another checkpoint, then with 165 bottles of alcohol in his luggage. This in combination with the fact that he had no special party planned meant that the customs chose to dispose of the drink.
No planned party
After the seizure, the man has had the opportunity to present evidence that he planned a party or a similar event, but he has not been able to do so. Therefore, the customs have now decided that he will not get the drink back.
The man was obliged to pay tax of SEK 12,600 for the alcohol, but since the customs did not return the drink to the man, he only needs to pay a transport surcharge of SEK 5,000.
