Customs’ efforts have stopped the cocaine in Helsingborg’s port

In recent years, record seizures of cocaine in Helsingborg’s container port have been reported on several occasions.

It has also been established that Helsingborg’s container port has probably functioned as a central import point for cocaine to northern Europe.

But now the Customs Service believes that it has stopped. They have not seized a single gram of cocaine in the container port since May earlier this year.

– The searchlight is on the port of Helsingborg, so it is not profitable to continue importing cocaine here. The large importation via the container port has disappeared, but we have made smaller seizures that come via the ferries, and that quantity is probably intended for the Swedish market, says Martin Petersson, expert at the Swedish Customs.

Directed work towards direct line from South America

The large seizures are a result of increased control frequency and targeted work towards the port’s direct line from Ecuador.

– But the danger is not over. The port still has the interesting line from South America and as long as it exists it is a threat and then we have to continue working in the port, he says.

The cocaine is believed to have moved

They also do not believe that customs have failed to detect consignments that entered via Helsingborg, but rather that the distribution chain has moved to another port, probably abroad.

– We should have found it if it came to Sweden, Most likely it has left the country, says Martin Petersson.

In the video, you will hear why customs believe that the cocaine has disappeared from the container port.
