Lidl has chosen to remove the plastic lid on two types of creme fraiche from the Matriket brand. The reason is that they then save 5.5 tonnes of plastic. The chain urges its customers to save old plastic lids to use on the new packaging.
Customers rage against the change
But customers are not happy with Lidl’s new decision. In Lidl’s comment field on Instagram, customers rage against the change.
“What a waste it will be with broken packaging”
“Stupid.. never use the whole thing. Gets a lot of waste now. Good job”
“Good job Lidl! That way the creme fraiche will go bad faster and you can sell more”
“Does it benefit the consumer? No, I don’t think so”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea as they will break more easily when you ship them home”
“Very bad”
