Recently, a customer discovered that the saffron buns baked in an Ica Maxi store contained pig skin, according to the ingredients list.
The customer felt a little disgusted and wondering whether it was a common ingredient to have in the buns and therefore shared a picture of the list of contents in a large back group on Facebook.
The buns contained pig skin – according to the list of ingredients
The post quickly received several reactions and has been shared around 20 times. Many customers were shocked by the list of ingredients and the fact that the buns would contain “pig skin” and commented on the whole thing.
“As some write, I understand if it had said gelatin (pork) (beef) or the way it usually says on everything else. But pig skin in particular sounded disgusting in buns.”
“We probably eat nastier things than that that we don’t know about”.
“Another reason to bake yourself.. I don’t understand why people buy coffee bread”.
“No thanks, I bake my own buns”.
“I guess that’s what makes the taste sour”.

Ica about the table of contents: “A small bug”
When News24 comes into contact with Jens Olander, cash manager in the designated Ica Maxi store, he replies that something must have gone wrong.
– That something so correct can be so wrong. When we read in and convert our ingredients into descending order, a small bug has crept in, so instead of it saying: “gelatin (pig)” the text “pig skin” has crept in, he explains and continues:
– Which in and of itself is not wrong. Gelatin is extracted from this, but it is only the protein from the pig skin that becomes gelatin. Good that our customers pay attention to our labeling of our goods. Now we have corrected the error and the text has changed to gelatin (pig).

It is not the first time there has been a mistake at one of the Icas bakeries.
News24 has previously written about the Ica Maxi store which had forgotten to write that their cakes contained both wheat flour, sugar, eggs, wheat starch, baking powder and skimmed milk powder.

Customers: “Unfortunate”
Customers raged on the store’s Facebook page, where they tried to apologize for their mistake. Many thought that the store sounded nonchalant in its apology and that the mistake was really big.
“Oops! It’s gone a bit wrong” unfortunately sounds bad to my ears and sounds like you don’t really take the mistake seriously. Someone who is allergic can have an incredibly serious reaction,” one person wrote and several others filled in.
“Forgetting an ingredient is of course not good either, but unfortunate. Mistakes can happen and mistakes do happen. But how can you forget all that stuff? It’s like 90% of what a cake contains. What did it look like before? A completely blank label with a price on it?”
“Oops, eggs are really a dangerous allergen to miss”.
The Ica Maxi store then changed its Facebook post and apologized once more, saying it won’t happen again.
