The Crow film is coming to cinemas – 16 years after the first reboot plans
The Crow is scheduled to hit theaters in 2024. There is no German start date yet. Filming took place last year in Munich and Prague.
The first plans for a new adaptation of James O’Barr’s comic of the same name date back to 2008. At the time, Blade director Stephen Norrington wanted to apply a realistic, quasi-documentary style to the fantasy material, as he revealed to Variety. After that, The Crow reboot changed hands so often that it almost seemed cursed. Over the years, stars like Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Tom Hiddleston have been considered for the lead role. Aquaman star Jason Momoa committed to the project for two yearsbefore he jumped off.

Numerous directors came and went without getting the first shot. That only changed with the involvement of director Rupert Sanders (Ghost in the Shell), who actually made the film.
IT star Bill Skarsgård leads the cast of The Crow
Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård (It) plays the lead role in the comic film adaptation. In the original, Eric Draven and his fiancée Shelly are attacked by a gang and fatally injured. Eric then rises from the dead and takes revenge on the perpetrators.
The The role of Shelly will be played by singer FKA Twigs, which is the second time she has taken on a major role in a film after Honey Boy. Other members of the cast include Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (Earth and Blood) and Jordan Bolger (Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett).

The script was written by Zach Baylin (Gran Turismo) and Will Schneider, as Deadline reports. According to the industry site, the film’s budget is $50 million, but that probably doesn’t include the costs of nearly 15 years of failed film plans.
Why Alex Proyas is against a remake of The Crow
The first film adaptation of The Crow went down in film history because of a tragedy. Lead actor Brandon Lee, son of film legend Bruce Lee, was fatally wounded in a scene by an incorrectly prepared revolver. He was 28 years old.
Alex Proyas, director of the original film, was critical of the idea of a remake several times in subsequent years. In a Facebook post in 2017 he wrote:
This is Brandon’s film. I think it’s a special case where Hollywood should just let it stand as a testament to one man’s immense talent and ultimate sacrifice – and should not allow others to rewrite or add to history. I know there were sequels and TV series, but the idea, this story and the original character […] Remaking it seems wrong to me. Please let this be Brandon’s film.
