WhatsApp is testing a feature called “Expired Groups” that lets you set an expiration date for group chats, according to a new iOS beta spotted by WaBetaInfo.
Users will be prompted to purge the group when the expiration date determined by what’s been transferred is reached.
The “Expiring Groups” option will appear within a group’s settings, allowing users to select options such as day, week, or custom date.
Users will also have the ability to remove a preset expiration date if they change their minds.
It seems that any expiration date set will only apply to you and not to other contributors.
This feature is expected to provide a good solution to the problem that groups tend to become disorganized and disinterested over time. In addition, it can save space by better managing temporary groups created specifically for certain events such as birthday parties.
WHEN CAN IT BE USED?
WABetaInfo states that the feature to select the expiration date for WhatsApp groups is under development, and the feature will be released in a future update of the app.
