Cultural project at Jukkasjärvi Homeland Association extended

In April last year, the project “Bathing in culture” was started, which is run by Jukkasjärvi Hembygdsförening.

The project is to continue this year and Leader Tornedalen 2030 has now approved a continuation and, among other things, an update has been made with new signage in the home area.

In the first year, they had received 1.4 million kroner for the project, and now they will receive another 600-700,000 kroner, where it will finally be hammered out by the Swedish Board of Agriculture.

The project aims to develop the cultural environment at the homestead to create attractiveness and accessibility for both local residents and visitors.

“It is so funny”

– I’m happy with how it turned out, it’s so fun that it will be a proper exhibition. Being able to show what tools they had and what they were used for, says Barbro Poggats, project employee at “Bada i kultur”.

This autumn, they also plan to invite schools from Kiruna municipality to the exhibition.

– It’s good because in Swedish schools you don’t get to read much about the Sami or learn about the Sami and the Sami life. It is good that the association takes it seriously and invites the students here so they can learn, says Poggats.
