When you think of remakes of old sci-fi films with Arnold Schwarzenegger, you probably immediately think of the Total Recall remake. Next year, another film is set to join the ranks – a new Running Man.
The material is based on a story by horror maestro Stephen King and this time it will be implemented much more faithfully to the original. It has also already been decided when filming will start.
Edgar Wright to shoot sci-fi remake Running Man starting in fall 2024
Shooting on The Running Man by director Edgar Wright (Cornetto trilogy) is said to have already begun in autumn this year begin, as lead actor Glen Powell revealed in an interview with IndieWire. The German television film Das Millionenspiel with Didi Hallervorden was released in 1970 and had exactly the same premise.
What’s particularly funny is that King’s 1982 science fiction novel is set in 2025 – the year in which the new film is due to be released, assuming it’s finished by then. The 80s film version with Schwarzenegger moved the setting forward to 2017 and deviates greatly from the book.
