Crystal Dynamics owns Tomb Raider games again

Crystal Dynamics has officially announced that it once again owns the Tomb Raider series after Embracer Group acquired the studio.

Tomb Raider series The honor goes to Core Design, not Crystal Dynamics, but for over a decade, Crystal Dynamics has also been making successful additions to the series. They managed to become the studio behind the popular productions with Tomb Raider, which they first released in 2013, and then Rise of the Tomb Raider, which was released in 2016. However, Square Enix handed the series over to Eidos Montréal in 2018. Of course, now that Embracer Group owns them all, it’s officially bringing order to things.

Crystal Dynamics re-acquires the Tomb Raider series

Crystal Dynamics reported that the studio bought their games from previous owner, former publisher Square Enix. “We are excited to report that Crystal Dynamics has taken control of several game franchises, including Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain, and from former owner Square Enix. As a result of this change, Crystal Dynamics is now the owner of these games and the controller of personal data associated with them. We look forward to embarking on this exciting journey with you!”

In addition, Eidos Montreal also reported that it took ownership of games developed by them, such as Deus Ex and Thief. It is unclear whether this situation will open the door to new games yet. In April, before Embracer Group announced its acquisition of the studio, Crystal Dynamics announced that it was developing a new Tomb Raider game with Unreal Engine 5. Now, if Eidos Montreal develops a new Deus Ex game, it won’t taste good!
