Norwegian superstar Johannes Thingnes Bö continued his superior performances in the Biathlon World Championships. He took his third championship in three races at Oberhof when Bö won the pursuit in showmanship.
The Norwegian who was the first to hit the course did not miss a single shot. All 20 shots were successful.
Bö won the race with a difference of 1 minute and 11.2 seconds from his compatriot Sturla Holm to Lägreid.
Bö could even afford to put on a small show at the Oberhof. He stopped before the finish line and went to a kneeling position. Bö pointed his fingers towards the stands.
He wanted to imitate the Norwegian soccer star Erling Braut Haaland in its ventilation.
– It was a tribute to our big star, Johannes Thingnes Bö said to NRK. (you switch to another service)
Ranked fifth Vetle Sjåstad Christensen raved about his teammate’s fanfare to NRK.
– That was the most brutal picture I’ve ever seen. I hope he has taken inspiration from my pranks, Christensen said.
– Looks like he’s like Lucky Luke about to fire a couple of friendly shots into the crowd. That’s the best picture this year.
The Norwegians grabbed the quadruple victory in a quick trip. It didn’t quite happen now. However, all six Norwegians in the race reached the top thirteen. Last of the Norwegians to finish Endre Strömsheim also praised Bö’s trick.
– It was nice to see. It can be a bit boring when he leads by a minute. It is important that he puts on a bit of a show, Strömsheim incensed.
Bö laughed that Haaland will easily knock him out in the comparison of the two.
29-year-old Bö has now won 14 World Championship golds in his career. He will be able to reach 19 golds in these games if he wins all the remaining games in Oberhof. Above, there are only 20 world championships in the sport Be Einar Björndalen.
In the World Cup, Bö won 11 races out of 14 possible before the World Cup.
– The goal is a medal in every competition, Bö underlined to after Saturday’s competition.
Then he will also make biathlon history. No man has taken seven medals in one World Cup. Of course, it is possible that Bö will also grab seven World Championship golds.
Broke the Norwegian front in Sunday’s pursuit and reached the bronze Sebastien Samuelsson believes that Bötä can destabilize.
– It’s hard. However, I believe that now we have seen Johannes’ toughest competitions. The rest of us have better opportunities with a normal trip and a joint departure. However, it is clear that Johannes is a big favorite, Samuelsson said.
Tero Seppälä went back to his old ways and immediately got results
The Finns had the best speed Tero Seppälä, who was 24th in the competition. He was one of the fastest risers in the race, as his ranking improved by 23 places from the sprint race.
Seppälä told after Saturday’s speed competition how he would like to return to the old way in vertical shooting. This was also done on Sunday. The gun now had last season’s vertical shooting block. The result was immediately the same as last year.
– There will be one miss. That’s why it was changed when you want to reset. But this is significantly better than yesterday, says Seppälä, who shot a total of four missed shots on Sunday.
Seppälä goes to the second week of the World Championships in a good mood.
– The weather seems to continue to be wet. I have slippery skis for these weathers. Maintenance had found a good stable today. I was able to overtake on the downhill so that I didn’t have to waste my own strength, Seppälä was happy.
Olli Hiidensalo was the best Finn in the speed race on Saturday, which otherwise went sadly for the Finnish men. He started the chase from 30th place. On Sunday, Hiidensalo dropped to 50th place with no less than seven missed shots.
– The race never started. It wasn’t the best possible ski, but the race fell on the shooting range. There were a couple of sloppy mistakes from Makau. I couldn’t get things together from a standing position at all. It was a bad race in every way today, Hiidensalo summed up.
