The account further writes that Victoria and other royalty dress in Zara and similar brands to seem more accessible, so that ordinary people can afford to buy the clothes they wear.

– Royalty does not carry Zara regularly – it is more a temporary choice rather than a staple in their wardrobe. Of course, we want to see that the royals stop supporting solid fashion, but I have a feeling that it will hardly happen soon, says Royal Fashion Police.

Zara and “Fast Fashion” in Aftonbladet’s review of Shein

When Aftonbladet Earlier this year made a comprehensive report where the newspaper’s reporters followed a return from the Chinese clothing brand Shein, they ended up in the Atacama desert in Chile, which the magazine calls “the world’s most extreme dumping site”.

There, the reporters saw how several large brands like Gap, H&M, Nike, Shein – and Zara – had their layers, with clothes to be dumped and fired into the desert.

Norwegian criticism of Crown Princess Victoria

Ida Elise Eide Einarsdóttir is a fashion journalist, and in a comment to Dagbladet she says that Fast fashion is the climate’s largest enemy.

– The trend has been to try to avoid these brands, so I’m not surprised by the criticism, she says.

Einarsdóttir also says that “it sends a somewhat wrong signal”.

– But it should also be said that Victoria has worn H&M several times. I do not know if the criticism would have looked the same if she had carried something from the Swedish big favorite (instead of the garment from Zara, ed. Note).

Fashion journalist Emily Dahl: “Time for Hovet to update the closet”

Emily Dahl is a fashion scientist and fashion journalist. She runs the Instagram account The fashion massacre and is heard in the pod Rude to assume. On her Instagram, she pursues questions about Fast Fashion.

– The Crown Princess has historically chosen to carry so -called “budget fashion” from, for example, H&M every now and then. It has given a popular flaire, but the court has obviously not kept up in the debate about Fast Fashion’s backs, says Emily Dahl tilL News24.

Dahl thinks it is “a little strange” that Crown Princess Victoria carries Zara, who is a direct competitor to Swedish fashion companies.

– In addition, Inditex is the company that stands for the second most emissions within Fast Fashion globally. Only Shein is worse, Emily Dahl tells News24.

Emily Dahl says that she has recently been contacted by several followers on social media who have reacted to Crown Princess Victoria’s choice of clothing.

– I have recently been contacted by several followers on social media that are upset that the princess carries both solid fashion and polyester, which is an anything but sustainable material (even when recycled). Therefore, I know that this does not go the princess’s audience unnoticed. And since I am sure that the ambition is to do right and set a good example, it is time for the court to update the wardrobe and cast an eye on the social debate, says Emily Dahl to News24.
