It was a determined Therese Johaug who went out in Lahti’s five mile -long races in the World Cup. She moved away early and could finally victorious after crossing the finish line – one minute down to the second.
– She goes really strong today. It is impressive to see the level she holds, says Ebba Andersson to SVT Sport.
– In the introduction I just felt “oh, should she be able to do this for five miles?”. But obviously she did.
Pulled away early
First, Johaug and compatriot Astrid Öyre Slind made a small jerk from Andersson a few kilometers into the race. When 9.5 kilometers had passed, the Swedish – then 24.9 seconds behind – was basically out of the victory discussion.
A little later, Öyre Slind was also more or less also without a chance. She finished second. Andersson took third place and was almost three and a half minutes behind winning Johaug.
Maja Dahlqvist broke the race about 15 kilometers in.
Have made its last race
Johaug has previously said that Sunday is her last in her career. The giant made a comeback for this season after a “break” in two winters.
– It’s been a fantastic season. I’m glad I made a comeback. It was most likely the last race, Johaug tells Viaplay.
Ebba Andersson believes she is welcome to continue
– As long as there is a small part that speaks for something else, the hope is that she will continue another season, says Andersson.
