The Norwegian sprint specialist Kristine Stavås Skistad is back with news. Earlier in the week she won the Norwegian sprint championships. And on Saturday she took home the World Cup sprint in Les Rousses ahead of Maja Dahlqvist and Jonna Sundling. Everything was decided with a sprint in which the 25-year-old Norwegian was the strongest.
Something that her coach Lage Sofienlund believes is stressful for Swedes in general and Jonna Sundling in particular.
– She sets the agenda and completely dominates in this sprint. Then the Swedes have to react to her tactics. Before Christmas, Sundling was able to dominate the sprints on his terms. But now there is a feeling in Sundling that she is no longer in control. Kristine is a crazy winner, he says.
February 27 is the time for the WC sprint in Trondheim. Sofienlund is convinced that Stavås Skistad has more to offer.
– Until the operation, Kristine did fantastic, dedicated work without interruption. After the operation, she has been extremely good at not rushing off and getting too excited, he says.
Stavås Skistad agrees with his coach’s thoughts.
– My job is to stress the Swedes. I think I succeeded in that today (read yesterday), she tells VG,
Jonna Sundling has won the sprint and the sprint relay in the last two editions of the WC, 2021 in Oberstdorf and 2023 in Planica.
