Cross-country skiing: Johannes Hösflot Kläbo’s criticism: “Rewarded for participating – not for being on the podium”

Johannes Hösflot Kläbo has dominated large parts of the season this year. But against countryman Harald Östberg Amundsen, who has only won three competitions, there is nothing to do.

“Done”

Amundsen won the Tour de Ski while Kläbo missed it due to illness. The distance up, with one distance left and 130 points left to get as a maximum, is 112 points.

Now voices are being raised to change the points system in the World Cup, which Norwegian VG have reported on previously. The critics believe that it favors to a large extent the riders who ride the most – and not the best.

– You are rewarded for participating, you should in any case be rewarded for being on the podium. In the past, you became one and it made a difference if you came first, second or third. But now you can be number seven and get almost as many points, says Kläbo to SVT Sport.

The team has had a meeting

In the previous points system, only the top 30 received between 1-100 points. In the new one, which was introduced last year, the differences between the riders are smaller, as a total of 50 riders get points.

During Thursday, a meeting was held in Falun with all teams where the issue was discussed.

– People were not completely satisfied. It wasn’t 10 out of 10 there. We’ll see if that changes next season. I would like to see a mixture of the old and new system, says Kläbo.
