Cross-country skiing: Expert Anders Blomquist: “Magnificent in so many different ways”

Watch Blomquist talk about the moment that gave him goosebumps in the player above.

There are several components in the race that Blomquist highlights.

– It was so magnificent in so many different ways: Partly that he rides faster than all the Norwegians and partly that he does it from a position further back but not so that he benefits from the others. He is the one who is up and pulling and doing the work. It’s a tough track with fair conditions, says Blomquist.

“He broke a barrier”

Anger has been responsible for several fine efforts in the distance races during the Tour de Ski. Blomquist believes that fifth place in the classic mass start race on Sunday lifted him and that 22-year-old Anger was strengthened by the freestyle race yesterday in a heavy course where he was 14th.

– He broke a barrier and has become a more complete skater. On the right days, he can be fighting for the podium at a distance and that also strengthens him as a sprinter.

Blomquist foresees two good stages for Anger with the sprint on Friday and the skiathlon on Saturday when the Italian location is changed to Val di Fiemme where the dreaded climb ends on Sunday with a mass start.

– The last climb should not go when he has to move his heavy body, but he can participate and fight for good positions, says Blomquist.
