Cross-country skiing: Emma Ribom on tough times: “Lost myself”

How is Emma Ribom now? In the video above, the Swede says: “I hope I get some love back”.

Emma Ribom had two straight sprint wins in Ruka and came to last weekend’s World Cup premiere with a big desire to succeed – and win for the third time in a row in the Finnish resort.

Instead, she was forced to withdraw after qualifying due to back shots. She says that it was a challenge just to walk around the hotel room.

The sudden problems came after a struggling pre-season. During the summer, Ribom struggled with damaged muscles in his ribs.

After the heavy blows, the big goal now is to find back to the joy of the sport.

“Incredibly tough”

– I have felt that I have lost myself a little, she says.

– Sport is so much fun when it goes the way you want and you are injury-free and feel strong. And sport is so incredibly tough when it doesn’t.

The 27-year-old feels that she is well on her way back, not least thanks to the support on the sidelines.

– I am incredibly grateful for that. It’s easy to take it a little too seriously sometimes. Then it’s nice to hang out with a friend or family member who can help me step out of the ski bubble and just be Emma.

The sprint competition in Norwegian Lillehammer will be decided on Saturday.
