Emma Ribom at first did not understand what caused her weak quarterfinals in the World Cup sprint on Thursday. Afterwards it was found that it was a rushing heart.
“Really scary,” she told Viaplay about the event.
Another Swedish rider who participated in the heart during the competition is the icon Charlotte Kalla. She finished 75th in 10 kilometers in the World Cup premiere in Ruka 2016 and went quickly to Stockholm for further investigation by specialists. There it was stated that it was about atrial fibrillation.
It was the first and last time she suffered from it. Her then boyfriend, current Valla chief Anders Svanebo, had similar problems which made her calmer there and then.
– The heart is incredibly central, but I never got particularly scared. The fact that I had to do proper investigations so quickly meant a lot.
– Although you may not be able to diagnose, there are several disease states that you can remove from the list. It makes a calmer that it is not about anything more serious wrong.
“Gained greater transparency”
She believes that it feels important to hear other people’s stories.
– You can feel confident that there are others who have had similar problems. I get stories all the time. We have a podcast where we had a sponsor and an advertising element that was about telling me that I am also affected. It made me gain more insight into how common it is.
– For me, it has not repeated after that World Cup competition in Ruka which I am incredibly grateful for.
